Argentina’s Macri arrives in Japan on two-day visit

Tokyo, May 18 (efe-epa).- The Argentine president arrived in Japan on Thursday for a work visit.

Mauricio Macri will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and will be received by Emperor Akihito.

Macri arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda airport around 7pm from China, where he was attending the Belt and Road Forum that kicked off on Sunday, and also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and signed bilateral agreements, among other engagements.

Macri’s official agenda in Japan will begin on Friday with the inauguration of Argentina-Japan economic forum, in which the Japanese government-related external trade organization JETRO, numerous Argentine and Japanese firms and representatives of the Japanese government will also take part.

Argentina’s Finance Minister Luis Caputo, Agriculture Minister Ricardo Buryaile, Transport Minister Guillermo Dietrich, Production Minister Francisco Cabrera, and Energy and Mining Minister Juan Jose Aranguren – all of whom are accompanying Macri – will also take part in the forum.

The Argentine president will also attend a meeting with members of the parliament, before meeting the Japanese prime minister.

The two leaders are expected to widen the scope of bilateral economic cooperation and sign a series of agreements.

Macri’s visit will conclude on Saturday, when the president will be received by Emperor Akihito at the Tokyo Imperial Palace.
