The Intendente Rodolfo Suarez will host in the Cultural Hall a meeting that will take place for the first time in the country and will take place on March 20 and 21.
The III Ibero-American Forum of Mayors, of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), is a space to exchange experiences in the design and implementation of sustainable urban development programs in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean. At the same time, it proposes to promote the exchange of good practices and the different lessons learned through the most varied experiences. The event will begin on Tuesday, March 20 with the preview of the activities. While the development of the Forum will be held on Wednesday, March 21, starting at 8.30 am, in room 1 of the Cultural Building.

“It is very satisfying to be able to receive this large number of mayors committed to urban transformation and the smart management of cities. We are proud to host this meeting of local leaders, which represents a very valuable opportunity for the people of Mendoza, for the country and for the Ibero-American cities, “said Mayor Rodolfo Suarez. He added: “Working together with the Province and the Nation makes this type of event possible”.

Attending the meeting different mayors of cities in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean, which are involved in the network of cities. The President of the IDB, Luis Alberto Moreno, and the Minister of the Interior of the Nation, Rogelio Frigerio, will also participate, as well as prominent exponents such as Richard Florida and Alejandro Aravena.

Among the mayors who will attend are: Federico Gutiérrez (Medellín), Felipe Alessandri Vergara (Santiago), Luis Revilla (La Paz), Gema Igual Ortiz (Santander), Juan Espada Cejas (Seville), among others. In the same way, Argentine mayors will participate, invited by the Ministry of the Interior of the Argentine Republic as Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (Buenos Aires), Mónica Fein (Rosario), Martiniano Molina (Quilmes).

The Forum will promote dialogue about the challenges facing cities, in the coordination of actions, between the different levels of the public sector, the private sector, academics, citizens and civil society. In addition, it seeks to promote local and regional development. It is noteworthy that on March 21, mayors will sign the Global Covenant of Mayors environmental treaty.

The realization of this Ibero-American Forum of Mayors will be possible thanks to: Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Municipality of the City of Mendoza, Government of the Province of Mendoza, Ministry of the Interior, Public Works and Housing of the Presidency of the Nation, Ministry of Development of the Government of Spain, Unicipio, Santander City Council, University of Cantabria and Leonardo Torres Quevedo Foundation.
